This year’s Pierce County READS burst through communities and ignited sparks of interest and conversations that engaged thousands of residents during the largest reading event in the county. Pierce County READS involves thousands of people reading, sharing and talking about the same book at the same time.

Following a public vote, Pierce County Library System selected the best-seller “The Big Burn” by Pulitzer Prize winner Timothy Egan for this year’s READS book.
|For the past four years, including for 2011, the Library used the following criteria to select the book:
During the READS program in 2011, Pierce County Library had copies of the selected book available.
To further Pierce County Library’s commitment to provide and encourage reading opportunities for all, the Library presented Pierce County READS with the program’s co-presenter, The News Tribune.
For the fourth year, KeyBank Foundation was the major corporate sponsor of Pierce County READS. Also, the Library worked with 23 community partners to get people involved and engaged with Pierce County READS.
